I think both! If your story is in a publication it'll get views no matter if it's curated or not (if the publication has viewers, that is). If your story isn't curated or in a pub, my best guess is that the "reads" come from users who go to your profile and click on the story from there. But who knows, maybe there is some other force at work, too!
