As someone who doesn't want kids either, I completely agree. It is especially difficult as the gender norm for women to be homemakers is still intact, so in many instances, housework isn't equally distributed in hetero relationships. And you're right, daycare is expensive, taking away a huge portion of the income you're earning anyway while working.. so it's almost like working for free and being away from your kids. The only benefit to that would be if you loved your job. Society is moving in the right direction, but there's still a lot of prejudices and gendered expectations that need to be taken down. In the mean time, very few people can afford to have kids anyway, not with hyperinflation and the current rent prices (Canada's housing market is horrible right now, I don't know any millennial who can afford to rent their own apartment let alone buy a house). No, we should be able to live the life we want, work a job we are passionate about, have children or not, marry someone we love, and not have to worry about getting food on our table or imprisonment. It's amazing how nosey and controlling people can be sometimes.
